A spanish wine chosen for the World Cup 2026

In addition to the purely sporting aspect, Spain will also be represented at the international tournament by one of its greatest international ambassadors: wine.

Marqués de Murrieta will be present in the VIP area of the main stadium in Mexico for this international competition, bringing the excellence of Rioja to one of the world’s largest sporting and social showcases, including the grand opening ceremony on June 11.

The 2026 World Cup will mark a milestone in the tournament’s history. For the first time, it will be held in three countries—the United States, Mexico, and Canada—and will bring together 48 national teams in the largest edition organized to date, with 104 matches spread across 16 host cities. The tournament will begin at the historic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on June 11 and will culminate on July 19 with the grand final in New Jersey.

In this international context, the winery will thus strengthen its ties with major sporting events of global prestige. The choice of Marqués de Murrieta is no coincidence. This winery, a benchmark for quality among Spanish wines, is a regular presence at some of the world’s most important sporting events, such as official ATP and WTA tennis tournaments, Formula 1 championships, and the UEFA European Championship, among others.

An Icon of Rioja

Having become its greatest ambassador worldwide, Marqués de Murrieta wine is now available in more than 100 countries.

The 2022 vintage is the winery’s newest expression of wine, best representing the balance between tradition and modernity. Made from grapes sourced primarily from the Ygay Estate in Rioja Alta, this wine reflects the character of the winery’s 300-hectare estate vineyard that surrounds it.

Made with Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, and Garnacha, each variety contributes its own distinct character to the final blend, resulting in a balanced and elegant wine. A wine destined to accompany exceptional moments and which, on this occasion, will share the spotlight with one of the most widely followed sporting events on the planet.

This milestone also comes at a particularly significant time for the winery: the run-up to Marqués de Murrieta’s 175th anniversary, which will take place next year. This anniversary will celebrate the great achievement of Luciano Murrieta, who in 1852 produced the first Rioja fino and succeeded in taking it beyond Spain’s borders.
