Gran Vino de Guarda La Comtesse 2019
Since the 2009 vintage, a dream has been materialized in Pazo de Barrantes winery: La Comtesse.
It is a modern white wine which demonstrates the versatility of the albariño grape reaching new horizons, beyond the freshness and fragrant aromatic range it boasts.
La Comtesse shows an elegant complexity and aromatic richness, confirming the great potential of the albariño variety with a meticulous winemaking and a careful aging in oak vats.
Gran Vino de Guarda
La Comtesse 2019
All the grapes come from Pago Cacheiro, a single vineyard of 1.4 hectares (3.4 acres) planted in 1965, in our Pazo Barrantes estate, a 12-hectare estate (29.6 acres) located in the Salnés Valley, heart of Rías Baixas. The estate´s soils are granitic, with sand on the surface and the average age of the vineyard is 40 years.
The harvest was carried out in 18 kg crates on September 14, 2019.
After an exhaustive selection, the grapes are destemmed and gently and slowly pressed in a pneumatic press. The must is decanted by flotation to ensure greater aromatic purity and then fermented at 10°C in 3,000-litre French oak vats for approximately 85 days.
12 months in 3,000 l French oak vats, of which 3 months in contact with the lees and 12 months in concrete tanks.
Tibetan Oscietra caviar, cauliflower sphere and iced champagne; iberian pig’s trotters veil with ginger roasted lobster, Chanterelle mushrooms ravioli; roasted in oven with viura canes monkfish loin, spider crab with Comtesse and lemon thyme aroma; fluid toasted almond soufflé, white chocolate with vanilla.

Tasting note
Scented in thousand and one nuances; orange peel, quince fruit, fern, fennel, acacia blossom, eucalyptus… silky texture in the mouth, with volume and plenty of depth. Well balanced, fine and elegant. Faithful to the variety and extremely suggestive.
“A vintage that confirms once again the great character of Pago Cacheiro” María Vargas, Technical Director.
