THE OSCARS OF WINE CHOOSE A SPANISH WINE AS THE BEST IN THE WORLD

On October 26th, the 40th edition of the Wine Spectator's New York Wine Experience was held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York, the most emblematic event in the world of wine, the "Oscars" of wine, in which the highest recognition has been given to our Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2010, a wine that has been unanimously chosen as the best wine in the world.

Wine Spectator, the publication that organizes the event, belongs to the most prestigious North American publishing group in the world of luxury, wine and spirits and publishes every year the list of the 100 best wines in the world, usually occupied in its top positions by French or Italian wines.

This year, more than 11,000 wines from all over the world have been tasted for this ranking and the centenary label of the first Rioja winery has been the only Spanish one to achieve, not only to be among the 10 best in the world, but also to do so reaching first place.

Vicente D. Cebrián-Sagarriga, president and owner of the Marqués de Murrieta winery in La Rioja, collected the award in person in front of more than a thousand attendees to whom he dedicated some emotional words. Vicente acknowledged that this was one of the most important days of his life due to the effort and work involved in achieving the coveted recognition, and stressed that "this award represents a great achievement for all Spanish wine, as well as a great recognition for Marqués de Murrieta and the family that is at the forefront of a project that represents the quality and good work of Spain.

The tasting committee of the aforementioned publication has taken into account different criteria for its evaluations such as quality, the trajectory of the winery, the impeccable image of its wines around the world and what they call the X factor, a criterion associated with the feeling, passion and enthusiasm that the wine awakens in the tasters. In the words of the organization, "For its history, its character and for reminding us of the value of commitment, effort and perseverance, Castillo Ygay 2010 from the Marqués de Murrieta winery is the deserving winner of the award for the Best Wine in the World".

This event was also attended by personalities of Spanish gastronomy such as the influential Chef José Andrés, who was awarded for his humanitarian work and celebrated that a Spanish winery achieved the highest recognition at the awards ceremony.
