MARQUÉS DE MURRIETA

HISTORY

The origin of Marqués de Murrieta winery is also the origin of Rioja. Don Luciano Murrieta, applying techniques learned in Bordeaux, crafted the first Rioja wine in 1852 with the intention of enduring over time.

Due to its historical importance in the world of wine, its heritage, and the architecture of the Castillo de Ygay, the headquarters of Marqués de Murrieta, was declared a museum in 2019.

Since 1983, the Cebrián-Sagarriga family has been leading Marqués de Murrieta Estates & Wines, a family educated in craftsmanship and daily effort. Brothers with a Galician heart who fondly remember their parents every day with love and gratitude.

The major renovation project of Marqués de Murrieta was completed with the inauguration in 2021 of the new winemaking facilities, a complex of buildings with more than 25,000 square meters, built next to the Castillo de Ygay. These spacious facilities are equipped with the latest technology for winemaking, becoming one of the most avant-garde buildings in the world. These innovative facilities are embraced by over 50,000 square meters of gardens that create an idyllic setting.

With this project, the winery manages to update itself entirely without altering its roots and identity, seamlessly merging tradition and modernity.

ESTATE
Our vineyards are our history, our uniqueness, our passion.
Our wines are born in our Ygay Estate, a vineyard of 300 hectares located in the southern part of Rioja Alta, surrounding our winery, allowing us exhaustive control of the quality of our wines from their inception.

PAZO DE BARRANTES

HISTORY

The origin of Pazo de Barrantes dates to the early 16th century and has been linked to the Cebrián-Sagarriga family since then.

It is a unique stone-built structure that has witnessed significant episodes in the history of Galicia for centuries. Next to it stands the winery, also made of stone, built in 1991 by Vicente Cebrián Sagarriga, X Conde de Creixell and father of the current owners, following the same philosophy as Marqués de Murrieta: crafting wines that showcase the character and personality of the vineyard they come from.

ESTATE

Pazo de Barrantes is surrounded by 12 hectares of its own albariño grape vineyard, all in the Valle del Salnés, in the heart of the Rías Baixas D.O.

The unparalleled terroir and its unique microclimate, combined with daily effort, care, and expert knowledge, allow us to obtain, year after year, grapes of the highest quality. A meticulous winemaking process without haste will allow this grape to express its full potential in wines with a vocation for longevity and great personality.
